Drive for SHOW, Putt for DOUGH

If you really want to SCORE at golf then spend 4 times as long at the Practise Putting Green than on the Driving Range. My first round was at the age of 22 and I shot 112 at Sportland in Winchester. That was the only time I ever shot over 100. Last round was right at 9 years ago when health problems started and then surgeon told me to never swing a club again. Gave all my stuff to my brother and miss it severely. Ended up shooting 74-80 on a regular basis with best round being 70 on same Sportland Goat Ranch. My 2 biggest advantages over the guys I regularly played with was I advanced the ball down the fairway and could chip and putt. I rarely sculled a shot or hit a worm burner as they say and was pretty good around and on the greens. Learn to chip and run and forget the flop shot when chipping. Use 5-6-7 iron bump and runs to keep the ball low and hit the green to run to the hole. Straight back straight thru on putts and keep head down until ball is halfway to the hole before looking at it. The rest is Practise Practise

#3 Distance is over rated. If you're straight, you can play anywhere.

That's about all you really need to know.

That's just what people that can't hit it far say, lol. It is a HUGE help to drive it 300+ yds in the fairway....when my buddies are hitting 7 irons in, I'm hitting wedges.

It is very true about your short game....spend the most time on that. If you can't chip it close, and make putts...you will never get good.

It's only a huge advantage if you can hit the lumber consistently STRAIGHT at 300+ yards....and if you can do that, my hat's off to ya brother!

I'm 250 and straight...getting to the point where I can work a little draw into the ball flight when I need it...that's about all I've got. Every once in a while I'll get a hold of one just right and put it out there a little farther. That's usually when there is someone in the fairway ahead of me and someone says "Ah, go ahead and swing, you can't hit'em." LOL
