    NRL 7/20/11

Took a friend of mine fishing @ NRL today after months of trying to convince him to go (he's no fisherman). He hadn't been fishing since he was like 10...so I was excited to finally get him out on the water. Needless to say...IT WAS HOTTTT!!! We put in @ the dam around 4pm, headed up toward State Park, hardly any jumps seen. We stopped in some coves where I knew they had been last week, and we caught several casting flukes to standing timber in 20-30ft of water. Very, and I mean very, few jumps happening....scattered, small jumps....nothing like last week! We headed up to mouth of Briar and found some more fish...water temps 92, water clear. My buddy caught around 12, which just made my day! I probably caught around 30...nothing big at all...biggest around 2.5 lbs or so. Just couldn't find any big ones, or any jumps for that reason. Wonder if the moon phase has them feeding to much at night, shutting of the afternoon jumps? Don't know...fun day none the less!

Oh yeah...had a guy come in around 5mph between us and the bank we were fishing...so close that I could reach my pole out and hit his boat! He asked us if we were doing any good as he plowed past us...I said, "WE WERE!" unbelievable!

Rich, you should have waited to see where he was fishing and then cut between him and the bank and said {doing any good?}. What could he have been thinking ? I still say it a matter of time before a case of water rage happens. I have never seen nolin to where you had to be that close to another boat when fishing or passing even on crowded holiday weekends. I guess there just more idiots on the water these days. Later,jc

Nolin has a problem with a-holes in cuddy cruisers and cigar boats driving right up next to fishing boats. it happened to me twice, and i witnessed about 10 others. What's sad is the dam police boat stops me every weekend and checks my livewell.

I know, we should have...but I didn't want to give up our productive bank we were fishing. There was a quarter mile of open water on the other side of us that he could have gone around, but he chose the 20 yds of water between us and the bank....the funny thing is, since he came between us and the bank, there were stickups all through the area he was driving through! I watched him hit one about 20yds down from us...hope it messed up his prop! Some people I swear are a few tacos short of a combo plate!
