You may have trouble with heat soak which is a common thing in hot weather. When you turn your motor off the fuel system is absorbing heat from the motor. Sometimes fuel can absorb enough heat that it will vaporise/vapor lock. When fuel reaches a very high tempature it actually is harder for the spark plugs to ignite it...I know that sound silly but fuel is actually designed to burn in a engine a set tempature.
This may or may not be your problem but it is a common occouance in the heat of summer. To help reduce heat soak I would find a gas station that sells NON ethanol fuel. Ethanol fuel is more prone to heat soak because it will absorb moisture and that moisture will heat up faster than fuel.
As a test I would change my fuel filter, run some Marine Formula Stabil or Seafoam through the motor, plus non ethanol fuel. I would check the primer bulb to make sure it is staying firm or replace it anyways if it had some age on it. A fuel bulb and some fuel cleaner is cheap maintenance that should be done anyways. Hopefully you can fix your problem..good luck...
If you problem disappears when the weather turns cool you know heat soak is your problem.
Thanks for the reply R19. Heat soak is not the problem, it has been checked for that. Also this has been a problem since I bought it in Feb. I always fill up away from Lou so I don't get regurgetated gas. The bulb seems firm but I think I will replace it anyway. Saw them at WalMart for $26, what a rip. I put Stabil in my tank every fall and pump the gas into my truck every spring. But I will try that also. Thanks for your reply.
I've heard that the HPDI sometimes "load" up. I fished with a guy and he trimmed the motor all the way up and said that it would "drain" the fuel. It fired right up with the motor timed up and then he just trimmed it back in to the water and we didn't have a problem with it the rest of the day. I'm sure that can't be good for the motor tho...
Talk to you later RO...
Hey Barry. I fished Tue and Wed night. I started the motor trimmed 3 quarters by accident the 2nd time and it started fine. So I tried that again the next time and it started fine. So the rest of the night I did that and it started great every time. I hope that works Sat. night. So what you said may be true for my motor as well. Thanks for the info, hope to see you at Barren. ro
