Fisherjoe,
Knute (the heathen) and I got into that action in front of the gates a couple of years ago too.
I think they were releasing about 4 ft of dam and the current was flowing pretty good in front of the gates.
We each were casting nickel/silver looking vertical spoons and casting them into the current and then reeling in as fast as we could to keep our lures up on the surface, just skimming the waves and the current.
We each lost a couple of the first strikes right when they hit. We were using spider wire and the no stretch jerked the lures right out of their lips. Loosened the drag up some so that when they hit they could run. Then tightened the drag back up to land them. That time I had to take a break to rest.
I much prefer catfishing, but I do get excited when the whites start jumping.
sorry but......what/where are the "hydros" ? i have an idea but ive learned to "not assume", so i just ask....its easier![]()
McCalpine dam on the Ohio River. Now that this has been announced there will also be 589 thousand people there to go along with the Stripers, lol. Not giving ya a hard time Rob, but get ready.........................
Mark, that's why I didn't post this Tuesday night when I got home. I knew we were going again on Wednesday.
The hydros form an "L" with the lower gates and is a power generator. They are directly across from the Clarksville ramp.
aaahhh.....gotcha , im going to guess you fish this by boat? and are they true stripers, hybrid stripers, or white bass or the #3 combo fish meal?
just curious, looking to try a short trip somewhere besides c land to catch something (the gulf is too far of a drive for a couple day trip lol).
thanks, jeff
hey mark the 589000 people dont scare meyou know where i live
thats a slow weekend for jtown hahahahaha
stripernut, I'm guessing they are hybrids because the lines on the fish are segmented and not straight? That's why I posted hybrids/stripers/white bass in my original post. I asked Knute (the heathen) a couple of times "What exactly are we catching?"
Yes, we are in a boat, so when you see a blue Stratos with a fat man with white hair and a beard approach, get the heck out of my spot!![]()
hahaha, i will just wait for the blue stratos to launch and follow....i mean ....um.....assist, yeah assist. sounds like you almost lost the fight with heat stroke the other night, so i will assist and give you a break from thyme to thyme![]()
I took a half gallon thermos full of ice water on Tuesday and also some bottled water in the boats ice chest. I drank the entire half gallon while on the river. No wonder I sweated so much. My hat was even wet!!!
Yeah thanks rob,,wanted to get 1 trip in before the crowd...LOL
Good deal ROB!!!!!, I am waiting for school to start back on Aug 10th ,then I will be out there .And by the way I got the back platform fixed so no one else will fall out of my boat
I didn't fall out of your boat, I fell into it. LOL
Knute slipped the other day and fell in my boat and we when got back to the ramp he fell out while trying to step out.![]()
