    cumberland phooey !

fished live craws in submerged trees yesterday morning and had a pretty good cooler of giant (and i mean giant -up to 12 inches) bluegill and some decent kys, ran out of craws, im sure alot of the missed fish were smaller gills and spots.
so being the ever prepared angler i took 4 dozen nice fresh small craws and went back to the same trees as well as some other trees......nothing !

water temps right at 90 at daylight, ultra clear and very slow

    oh well theres always tommorrow

was wondering how long till gills started coming to vegetation and critters in vegetation. cumberland should only get better and better with vegetation! if i may ask, what part of lake. contemplating coming down this weekend. usu fish weedbeds at dale this time of year for big gills but may give cumberland a try.

There are some monster Gills in that lake. My wife loves to fish for them and I take her sometimes. The big ones are deeper, small ones up shallower most of the time.

never been able to catch big ones like at dale. i was hoping the vegetation would bring em in and the striper die offs should lead to a bluegill explosion. bet the largemouths get bigger and more plentiful too.

I have a couple of spots that always hold alot of Gills. What I have found on C-Land is the big monster males are deep. One of my spots the wife uses a splitshot and no bobber and will drop her favorite cricket and power nugget combo down to them, almost thirty feet in my one spot. One day she had two that were over 12 inches long and several others that were 11 inches. You know the kind with the big hump on their head, where they almost start to look mutated, lol. Find them and use slip bobbers and keep coming out and down until you find the big ones..

Good luck. I do have to hit several areas usually to get a mess as they do tend to spread out more, so I understand what you are saying.

already home with a limit of nice fat spots...the sun has only been up for a while and its not 300 degrees yet !
2 trees 10 minutes each and i was done !
this lake will drive you nuts !! on again off again blah blah blah !

only one big bluegill, actually the first fish that hit, and then all spots after that.

p.s hey mark have you ever looked in the stomach of one of those really big gills? its amazing the number of craws they have in them...along with small shad...bugs and other assorted stuff
