Very difficult to catch shad out of 88 degree water and fish em in the 64 degree river. You can get away with a 15 degree change but 25+ degree change is too much. I tried that for years and decided it's not worth the effort. Your best bet is to try and find bait out of the river or throw plugs/swimbaits.

I've never had any luck keeping T-ville shad alife in a tank for long. Aerated, ice water, chemicals, they just seem to be wimps.

Have no problem keeping them alive. I catch them at taylorsville spillway the night before. I have developed a air conditioning system for my holding tank, the water temperature in the tank when i leave taylorsville is about 62 degree's. Was at burkesville saturday, fished all day, shad were still frisky when i left late that afternoon. My problem was the shad i caught were all 4 to 5 inches. Need some 8 to 10 inches. Hard to find!

If you really wanna catch the big boys down there, get a tank full of 12" skipjacks from below the dam. There in the river by the thousands. They are real easy to catch as well.

And they don't stop at 12". An absolute blast to catch. have caught them on just about every lure I've thrown in the Cr tailwaters.
