    Re: catfish at taylorsville

I can't say if they were catfish or not but about 1/3/-1/2 the way out into the channel on the inside horseshoe bend had so many fish stacked top to bottom that my whole screen was almost black from 8 ft down to 40+ ft. I was just waiting and waiting and nothing happened. Biggest group of fish I've ever seen on my screen. There were 2 other boats fishing there so it seems like it could be a hot spot

Like HBob ... I launch out of Settlers, make the right hand turn towards the dam ... but, instead of the "hump" area, I tie up to the standing trees in the coves along the bank to the left (as you turn to the right towards the dam) and cast out towards the main lake/hump. I've caught good "eater" Channel Cats, doing that (in the distant past).
Now, I will admit that I was not fishing for any Catfish over the 4-5lb range ... just for some "eater" size fish in the 2-4lb range.

Pappay, that's great advice. ever thought to try that, but makes a heck of a lot of sense. Seems like you'd be fishing in teh traffic lanes where the fish move to and from the diner table. Sounds like a winner.

I dont discredit that your fish finder showed an ass load of fish from those depths...But since the thermocline (and therefore the oxygen) fairly well stops at 15 feet, I dont think the fish were hanging out past the 15 feet mark for anything more than a few seconds. I have read about this on other post on other forums, and I think there is something going on there. Maybe hybrids so thick in that area that the sonar couldn't penetrate.....in which case you needed a white rooster tail

I'll readily admit I'm new to boating and especially trolling and reading the fish finder. But one question: if the thermocline is 15 ft, how does my sonar show fish laying on the bottom? No disrespect, just curious about it.

BTW: I was using 2 rooster tails, one yellow and one white, with 2 egg sinkers in front of them with the rooster tails on a 2 foot leader behind a swivel and still got nothing.

I'm gonna try that spot again though. It just looked too good to pass up. Will try a slip bobber next time. Will have to anchor out off to the side to stay out of everyone's way.

This is what I did Saturday, but I fished the "hump" area with a carolina rig set up dragging bottom at about 8 ft deep, and off the edges down a little deeper.

Action was fairly non-stop, LOTS of little guys about 8" - 10", only caught about 5 that I considered taking home to clean, but decided to let them go at the ramp. Mostly channel cats and one blue. Probably should have gone a little deeper, but it was fun enough doing what we were doing.

Spoke to a buddy of mine that fished T-ville just out of settlers trace around the bend at the flat a few days ago.
He said they caught a few gills early and used those as bait. He set out about 6 jugs and had about 4 other lines out.
He said it was non stop till about 4 in the morning, they caught a lot of little ones and several good eating size. They only caught a couple 4-5 pounds

exactly where is this flat if you don't mind me asking? I'd like to take my boy to a hot spot with poles. Right now he only likes jugging b/c when you throw out 30 jugs, you get more action. I'd like to catch some on poles....both for him and me. And smaller fish are fine for me when I take him.
Fishing with a bobber or dead line? I'd have to try my luck during daylight hours though....not gonna take him out on a lake at night.

    Re: catfish at taylorsville

    Caught 8 today in 4 hours and 30 jugs so pretty slow. 4 1 lb fish....smalllest I've ever caught...and 4 around 4-5 lbs.

Got there at 9:30 and no action for an hour. It came in spurts. Did have some hooks cleaned off again. Those little shad just don't stay on very well at all. The 5 lber had 18 2 inch shad in his stomach. The other ones had between 5-8. Can't believe that one was still feeding with 18 in him already.

Any idea on how to locate bigger shad? The Van Buren area was dark water from the MILLIONS of shad. My sister had never seen such schools and thought it was amazing. Saw several white/hybrid bass jump clean out of the water too but not any boils though. A nice day to be out for sure.
