Waters to flat down that stretch for me as if you don't paddle you don't move.
I have canoed the Green a couple of times in the park. We did the Dennison Ferry to Green River Ferry. I want to go down next year and do from Nolin Dam down to its confluence with the Green.
Have run that section many a time. Caught really nice rainbow trout at the confluence. Camping is a little cramped on that run. Believe you have to camp at designated camp sites. On the Green anything in the flood plain is open. When you have 8 guys with boats the large gravel bars on the Green accommodate very well.
Done that stretch this spring after the flood. Camped at second creek.
No fish to speak of but with the water in the shape it was it was not unexpected. Had to really fight the current upstream from Nolin mouth to the ferry.
From the Nolin Dam down is a wonderful trip. I have fished these waters for years. Love it. Untile last year I lived about 10 min. from Houchens Farry. If you camp you need to get a permit which was free the last time I camped there. You can pick one up in the park office.
Now from you folks that canoed and camped there just how many snakes did you see along the way? I bet not many.
I've not seen the first snake on any stretch of river I've been on in the park. I've been going down there for quite a while. Nor have I seen any while hiking the trails. Only draw back to the permit is the office doesn't issue them after 5pm central time. From the Nolin Dam down is a wonderful trip. I have fished these waters for years. Love it. I knew the answer before you posted it. There are snakes there but I have never seen as many as some folks have reported. But then again there are lots of places in the park that I have not been. It would be smart to stick to the trails while hiking.
Yeah your suppose to be walking the trails. It amazes me the number of people that visit that park. Yet it is one of the wonders of the world. If everyone went off trail the eco-system down there would take quite a beating. Always stick to the trails when in National Forests.
