Re: North Oldham = World Series

They are showing the 2002 LL game between Texas and the team from Louisville on ESPN Classic now. This is the game where the kid from Louisville threw a 9 inning no hitter with 19K's and the kid from Texas threw a 9 inning 2 hitter with 21K's. Louisville wins it in 11 or 12th inning and goes on to win the title in the next game

Elwood is talking about the Valley Sports Little League team from Louisville that won the whole thing. One of their two big stars, Aaron Alvey, spent some time out here in Shepherdsville a couple of years ago. At the Bullitt County Detention Center for drug charges!

He was the kid that threw the 9 inning no hitter and struck out 19. He also hit a MONSTER Homerun back to back after that stud shortstop/pitcher, Zach Osborne had hit one in the 11th to put them ahead. Alvey's HR was hit so long up on the hill that the Left Fielder never moved a step. I don't care what league when you hit one so far the outfielder never even moves that is a blast. What ever happened to the Osborne kid? He looked like a stud ballplayer and was a very good shortstop.

Zach Osborne was a fine player all the way through high school when he played for PRP. IIRC he was runner up for Kentucky Mr. Baseball to his high school teammate. He went to Tennessee on a full ride and I believe he is still there.

I played at Valley Sports when I was a kid...I'm not 100% sure but I think Valley Sports has been around since the 50's.

I remember when they won the world series...it was back in 2001 or so (somewhere in there)....anyway I remember that Alvey kid, he was a full grown boy if memory serves me correctly, he definitely looked like he was bean fed. Some people at the time was questioning either his age or the age of another boy on the team. Of course you're going to get that anytime anything good happens in sports, someone is always questioning something or someone.

It was a big deal...they had a parade starting at PRP high school and went on down Greenwood Road to Dixie Highway. Had one Corvette convertible in the parade for almost every player to ride in, and if it was a Vette then it was a rag top muscle car from the 60's/70's. There was tee shorts and hats made up and everything else. Lots of people turned out for the parade, it was a bigger deal to the community than it was to the boys, or so it seemed like to me anyway. What I remember most about it all was the boys riding in the convertibles looked like they'd just as soon not have a parade, looked like they didn't know what all the fuss was about. They looked like boys wanting to get their time in the spot light over with and start hanging out with their buddies again.

To bad about the young man in the detention center....sure hate to hear that.
