I've been catching at NRL with a lizard. What does anyone think about a rattle trap at NRL? A crankbait does sound good though if you can get them to bite the right color.

i like lizards this time of the year. me and my buddy did really well on crankbaits at nolin last fall. color didn't really seem to matter for us. but we seemed to be the only people puttin up numbers on that lake. we never used a rattle trap then but you better believe i'm going to try them this year.
I have a few...first I love a bass assasign, great bait in the fall imitates a shad perfectly...second, a rattle trap, great search bait in fall, third, a shallow running crankbait, like a strike king 4s, and finally topwater, love buzzbaits, and kermit the frog.
Any particular colors you like more than the other in each of those types of baits?
I recall Tony Bean giving a seminar on fall fishing and when the question came up about colors of rattletraps he said "any color is alright as long as it is chrome & blue" I can't argue.
I also like to use a 3in darker green or brown color grub.
Sure!! Cause the number 4 rapala custom green color is going to be on fire. End of story.
How do you fish the bass assasin (top water or do you fish it deeper) Then how do yo rig (Texas style) and what type hook (EWG of course I would think)?
Thanks
I texas rig the assasin weightless, and the hook I use a 4/0 ewg gamagatsu(sp) as far as depth, let the fish tell you where the want it, I will start by twitching it on top, with a fast retrieve, if no bites, I count to about 5, and slow down the the retrieve a little, and I will keep doing this till I figure how they want it. Just take your time, and you will figure out how they want it, and what depth. I have had days where they will kill it close to the top, and other days where you would almost have to deadstick it to catch them. Also if they want it deeper, try using a hook with some lead on it to get it deeper.
That's awesome dude! I bought a pack of Owner hooks that are the EWG PLUS and I kind of like them a little better than the Gamagatsu EWG's. Looks like the Owner hooks give you just a little more.I texas rig the assasin weightless, and the hook I use a 4/0 ewg gamagatsu(sp) as far as depth, let the fish tell you where the want it, I will start by twitching it on top, with a fast retrieve, if no bites, I count to about 5, and slow down the the retrieve a little, and I will keep doing this till I figure how they want it. Also, I've looked at some of the Rage Tail Craws and the Baby Rage tail craw and I really like some of the colors. Have you had any luck with them? I watched a show and they said that was a good bait to use to change things up in a lake that gets fished a lot.
