Cumberland Help 19-21 Aug

Headed for Jamestown, going out 19-21st Aug, mainly AM for Striper, live bait, shiners and planer boards. Got newbys along. I haven't been Striper fishing at all this year. Really could use some help.

Where? Don't need be specific. Just general area. Plan to run boards with shiners. Depth to run bait would help. Any advice welcomed. Just want to get some out of towners on a Striper or 2 as it would be their first.

Thanks in advance guys, been awhile since I hit big C, work, and moving stuff to Fort Bennning has kept me tied down this year.

Thanks Peter. Guess I'll start there, and hope on the run down over the channels I bump into some. Heard anything like fish holding at the mouths of the major creeks like Indian and Beaver?

Don't discount fishing a few feet from the bottom in 80' of water or whatever the depth is that day.. I was seeing them come up from where they were not visible on graph or maybe it just looked like that because they were moving horizontally close to the bottom. You might get lucky and find a good size school so have your crew trained and your stuff ready to drop down.

Thanks, will do. Alos rigging some line with Hopkins spoons so when I get the live bait down, I can try to jig up the first bite to turn the school on.

I went last year about this exact time and what Peter says matches what we did with a guide. We caught 1 deep in sight of the dam.

I've always had a hard time this time of year. I did pick some up on the main lake over the channel between Wolf Creek and Lilly Creek. The channel goes is right next to the bluff walls in that point. I was doing slow S turns in anywhere from 80 to 120 feet of water, fishing 40 to 60 feet deep. The deeper lines were the ones that got hit. I've gone back several times to repeate that and had no luck. It all depends on if the bait is in the area or not.

Another spot that I have picked fish up at is on the other side of the lake from where Beaver and Otter meet the lake. The river channel curves and gets very close to one of the points before curving back out. There is a nice shallow area, a decent drop off, and then drops deep to the channel. That type of setting is good for figuring out what depth the stripers are at.

Adam, some great ideas, and gives me some alternatives. Means I can aim for the dam and fish my way back up at selected spots.

bob, move and move alot, cover alot of territory. fished everyday for the last 10 days straight and believe me, channels dont matter points dont matter, bluffs dont matter.....they are where they are. live bait is a pain in the ----- right now, dying pretty quick down there, so if your using shiners better buy a bunch
think of it this way....theres no "secret" spot right now, if it works today it doesnt mean squat tommorrow, just fish hard.

Shiners are gonna be my biat, cause I'm too lazy to chase shad. I hear ya, been my experience this time of year even the shiners don't like the extremes. Gonna sound like a low goal, but as long as I can find a way to get each numbie on one fish each, I'll be happy. Just gotten to that point where I'm happier to help the new guy learn and rest knowing I'm started something.....even if it is freezing to near death, sweating till your soaked, no sleep, too many bugs, not enough to eat, an expensive habit, and braving 4 foot white caps and thunderstorms that soak you to the bone. I mean.......if I "enjoyed that stuff", who am I to deny it to someone else? :-)

And if I get real luck, maybe I can get one of these new guys to buy my boat and take me fishing for "the lessons".

pretty sure youll pull it off. but i think you are well on your way to a good time already.....storms, snow, waves.....all a very important part of it.
