Wore out the gill today in a Warrick co. pit but after getting home and cleaning some found most had black spots in the meat - a parasite called a fluke . Great - well the DNR says they are safe to eat after cooking but I passed and threw them out . A lot of the gill had tiny snails in their guts which has something to do with it .
i would have probably tossed them too... probably has something to do with all the stagnant water with no rain really
