Re: Canoe Trip On Elkhorn Creek/Where's The Fish!

You wont catch 100 fish on the main stem. I went a week ago with my cousin to the north stem and caught over 40 with 5 over 15 inches and the biggest two pushing 3lbs. You have to fish the more remote sections. We fished the north stem and took 1 vehicle. We were there 8 hrs. We took a 2 man kayak and paddled a couple miles down stream and fished our way back up to the truck. We didnt fish the first mile below where we put in too much access. If we took a full day 12 hrs and floated down and had two vehicles I think we could have came close to 100 fish. We spent 2 of the 8hrs paddling.

And the guys on here are right Mexicans and other meat eaters ruin the creek. When we took out there were 6 mexicans fishing and they had a couple 12in smallies on a stringer. I would bet they fish there alot they looked like they worked close. It doesnt take long when you keep everything and fish there often. There are alot of fish in the creek but they arent that hard to catch especially at that size. You gotta get away from the pressure and that isnt possible on the main stem. Its not unusual to be catching fish on Elkhorn and hit an area thats dead. It looks good but there arent many fish. Then you see an access point from a field. People will go to the creek and fish one or two sections really hard that they can get to thru a farm they know. Its not just Mexicans either I know guys from Eastern Kentucky who took a 3 day trip to elkhorn and kept 60 bass. Needless to say I dont share my spots on the creek anymore.

Nice video Scott I enjoyed that, reminds me a lot of Floyds Fork. Definitely never come close to 100 in a day there though, lucky to catch 10 including rock bass on most days.
