    Is 10 yrds too close?

I guess everyone on here has their own story, but at what distance do you tell Mr. Long John Silver in a burgandy/silver ranger that he has got to close? Partner and I are out on a ledge Sunday with a bouy out and this guy comes in and drops a bouy 15 yds from mine lets his boat drift as close as 8-10 yrds. Top it off, he did it twice inside of a hour! His statement : " I found these fish a few days ago " I know thses guys wont change , but their kids will think this is ok. I sent email to Long John Silver, what else to do?

Far too close! Sounds like you need to take some scuba gear and an auger or water proof drill. If his boat won't float, then he can't get that close again!

Re: Is 10 yrds too close?

About a month ago my nephew and myself were setting on a point across from Bailey's Point. We were about 30yrds off the bank and fishing at night.

A boat pulls up on the side of the point and fishes it for about 5mins and then proceeds to go between us and the bank and anchor directly in front of us. We made several comments that they ignored, heck we even started pitching at their boat.

After about 20 mins. and them not moving i gently pointed the nose 180* from their boat and at a distance of 10yrds. or less left them to "their" fish.

They were three people in the boat including a woman in the back, they also left their light off since we had ours on, and enjoyed alot of canned soda.

I just added the details in case they are a member here, i'd kinda like to know how the fishing was after we left :]. Oh and to let them know i'm the one who blew that point out.

    Some people are just morons

I would have told him I just found them and then proceded to circle his boat 8 or 10 times.

They are every where. They are the ones that pull in the middle of the ramp and get there boats ready.

me my dad and my grilfriend were fishin a ledge on KY lake this summer and a guy stopped about 50 yards from us and started tying his lure on his line. next thing you know he's right in front of us and doesn't say sorry or anything and just keeps on tying. thats when i wish i would've had about a 3 oz. sinker on my line and put a little hole in that fiber glass

I tell you what....I'm an honest man...very honest. And I can honestly tell ya that if someone did that to me, I would crank my outboard up, go about 60-70 away and then come back to them on plane within the same 10 yards as many times as needed to make them get the hint and leave. I would not care one bit if they got swamped if they want to act like that. Hopefully they would take it as a lesson learned and not do it again. If not, I'd be happy to give another lesson. There's no excuse whatsoever for someone to do that.

Yup some people are just rude. Ive tried my damnest to say just let it go. usually ill just crank up the outboard trim up and make as much wake a possible then leave and come back at some other point. No matter how rude people are I dont think me getting in a fight/shooting someone over fishing is worth not being able to fish for 5-10 years or maybe even life.

If im trolling the bank ill usually move away and stop casting and let the other boat pass closer with some discussion to the other operator on how they are doing, just to make small talk and continue on fishing after i get past them .

I can't stand rudeness in people either. I can't understand what makes people behave in such a way. And to answer your question, 10 yards is way too close, unless you say its okay. Tournament rules usually state no closer than 50 yards to another competitor when anchored but still a little common courtesy never hurts either.

Why does someone think that if they found fish at a spot a few days ago it's OK to fish
it when someone else is on it? If I found fish there in 1988 ....does that mean I have the
right to fish it when it is obviously occupied? Where do these "Long John Silver" idiots come from. 50 YARDS AT A MINIMUM !!!!! If you can't adhere to that unwritten rule then
you'll have to wait until I leave ! When you see a boat on it.....GO ELSEWHERE !!!
