Irene the Hurricane

BTW my parents live in Lewes, DE, about a mile from where the tornado touched down. I talked to my Dad about a half hour later, and his response was, "This is kind of neat! We've seen an earthquake, a hurricane, and a tornado, all in the same week!" Of course, this was before the eye had passed through... I kept telling them they were underestimating that storm, but they said they'd be fine. Turned out they were, but I still think it was crazy to stay. Their house is about a mile from Delaware Bay, maybe 2 to the ocean, and at high tide I don't think it sits 15 feet above sea level. But they didn't get as much of storm surge as they might have, so it worked out fine, they just lost power over night.

Promises made are not necessarily promises kept. If Obama keeps his promise to help the victims of hurricane Irene, he will have done something that merits applause. However, I am predicting he will soon forget because, after all, he lost nothing to the hurricane.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed the 9th Ward in New Orleans and GWB (and 'Brownie') promised that help would be forthcoming. Today that area still sits in ruins amid grass and brush that have grown taller than a man's head. The property owners are still waiting for help. Today roads through part of the 9th Ward are traveled by limousenes and tour buses going to huge casinos that were built with the blessings and help of crooked politicians. Most of the victims who lost everything seem to have been forgotten.

In 1992 hurricane Andrew, a Category 5, with winds of 165 mph, hit near Homestead, FL and did damage that was estimated between $27 billion and $34 billion. The victims were also told that the government would help provide for them to rebuild their houses and the city. The people are still struggling to rebuild, at least those who can. They were soon forgotten and never received the help that was promised. I had some relatives who lost everything but their lives to that wicked hurricane.

I want to see Obama put some 'hands and feet' on his promises and make something good happen for the victims of hurricane Irene but I am having serious doubts.

The federal government has poured hundreds of billions into Katrina aid. In my opinion the main problems are bureaucracy, mass confusion, misplaced expectations, and outright fraud. Politicians, particularly those in Louisiana have been inept from days before Katrina right up to now. Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagan is a perfect example of that. And what did the citizens there do about it? They reelected him.

How is it Joplin, Missouri, a city totally destroyed by a tornado less than a year ago has their schools operating already? Granted the schools are in makeshift facilities, but you don't see national news clips of people shouting "Wheah my money?" because welfare checks were late. No politicians spouting profanity and blaming the President to the news media, just hard working people trying to get past the lousy hand nature dealt them.

The biggest difference between the two cities, other than their size, is the people in Joplin do not want or expect the federal government to do everything for them, they took advantage of federal ASSISTANCE, but assumed the full responsibility for rebuilding.

The federal government cannot fix every situation by throwing money at it. That they've already spent us into crisis with little to show for it proves it. The sooner people realize that the better.

Far as Mr. Obama's promises, we've already seen first hand how well those work out.

The Government is responsible for rebuilding infrastructure not rebuilding homes. That is what insurance is for. People build expensive houses on the coast and buy insurance from FEMA because they are the only insurers that will take them. FEMA pays out those claims with our tax dollars. FEMA is the only organization stupid enough to insure such high risk properties. Private insurers will not touch them because they would lose money just like FEMA does every year.

Michele Bachman says Irene, among other things, is God's warning. But her handlers have been quick to say she was joking? Watch the vidio and decide for yourself. For me, her statements certainly help me narrow down the pool of possible GOP canidates. Michele is not on my list.

You know......I'm far from a bible thumper.....I believe in God, and I think faith has a place in my life.......

BUT......Michelle Bachmann......you ARE NOT HELPING ME VOTE FOR YOU........STFU.

I like her, and I think she has potential, but I believe she is a FAR WORSE choice than Palin.......and I don't believe she's even in the top 5 of my choices for Pres........

Not very religious either, but how do y'all know God isn't warning us? After all it is pretty sinful how the government is handling our money.

In seriousness I would still vote for Bachmann because of her TEA party stance. Every politician makes verbal gaffs, I'm not sure why you two see this one as some kind of gating factor.

Stop drinking the mass media kool aide, everyone with deep religious convictions is NOT some kind of nut.

I disagree she is far worse than Sara Palin. That said I voted for Palin, and would do so again.

I had seen the clip and read the posted link. I do think it was an off the cuff kind of remark. I would rather hear her talking this way than the talk of Muslim junk that seems to follow our potus.
Personally I don't feel god is punishing us with these natural occurrences. I can think for myself on that I don't need her or anyone telling me different.
Seems like any mention of God from the GOP or TEA party and the media jumps up in arms trying to rally the liberals and independents against those parties.
I don't think it's gonna work. I think the American people have had enough of this administration and the media.
