Port Charlotte area

Renting a house in Port Charlotte for January. It is on a saltwater canal. Owner says there are snook and redfish in it. Do not know a thing about fishing for them, any advice?

Everything I have seen or read about snook fishing is that you can use bass fishing tactics. I have only caught one redfish but I was not fishing for them. It was a long time ago. I thought that since most saltwater fish had teeth I would use chicken livers. I put one on my hook and cast it out there. I caught a 12 pound redfish. Not knowing what it was (looked like a carp to me) I threw it back. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Carter1. Those canals will be a first for me. Mainly it will be warm, anything else is a bonus..
