I think the difference in what you are keeping and still fishing for that species is more in the way you keep them. For instance, I am fishing in a bass tournament. I keep my fish in a livewell and when I catch a bigger one I let the smallest one go. On the otherhand if I am keeping fish in a cooler then those are for keeping. Now fishing for a species once you have your limit on ice might be a fine line. As long as you let them go I don't see a problem. Afterall, who's to say you aren't fishing for a different species.
I never thought about the livewell scenario. I always put my keeper Stripers straight on ice in the cooler. I would think having 2 per person in the boat in the cooler and still fishing for them would be a violation. I am almost certain that Guides will end the trip once the limit has been reached because it is a violation or it could be a moral issue because most of the year Stripers will die if they are released after being caught. Not so much when the water temps are cooler and I may be completely off base on what I said. Maybe somebody will chime in that knows for sure.I think the difference in what you are keeping and still fishing for that species is more in the way you keep them. Not a problem, jiust read the KY regs as if you were a lawyer...2 fish limit (in possion). So, after you limit, should you catch another striper, while fishing for Kentucky or small mouth, simply release it and no harm done. Fish on my friend. BUT BE WILLING TO PAY THE GUIDE FOR THE EXTRA TIME ON THE WATER. READ THE LARGE PRINT. X HOURS OR 2 FISH LIMIT AND TRIP IS DONE!!!I never thought about the livewell scenario.
