    B&B for Fisherman...Lake Cumberland?

    B&B for Fisherman...Lake Cumberland?
Been thinking of opening a bed and breakfast for fisherman on Lake Cumberland. 10 miles or less form; Halcolms Landing and State Dock on LC, Wolf Creek Dam (Kendell & Indian Creek), Hemls Landing and a little lbit more to Wenfeys Landing on the Cumberland River. Full service including trailer parking and electrical hookup for your boat.

So, what do you fellows think,....would you use it?

Thanks in advance for you "honest replies".

I think the first thing is to decide what type fisherman and clients you plan to serve. From that, you know better where to position the business to be most convenient, or the only such offering in the immediate area.

When I fish and want a roof over my head, the first thing I look for is close to where I want to ramp in. Features and services offered is second, the last price. I want to be cle to where I ramp in, have bait, tackle and food close, and if that costs a little more, I'm will to go with it. Good service, clean facilitites, and hours of operation that meet my schedule play in there too.

I kinda think targeting Halcombs landing deserves a look. Just not many places to stay anywhere around there, save the campgrounds below the dam. Used to be a place in Freedom, right at junstion to 55/127. Sat on the left side of 127, had 2 bedroom efficiency rooms, with small kitchen. Was perfect, cause it was close Lake Cumberland Country store for bait, gas, tackle, and food on the way to the dam.

I just think more folks would ramp in that end of the lake cause the ramps are great, lots of parking in that massive lot, if they had a good place to stay right in that area. I know I would as an alternative to J-town and Allegator 2.

Good idea gary! that ought to keep her busy, and give you a couple of xtra bucks to use fishing! Another great idea where she could help man kind is, a Livery service from the bottom of that long steep ramp to your car.Heck I'd gladly pay 2 bucks for a ride like that~

Fishermen are painfully cheap, so you'd have to target their wives for a nice B & B. Many anglers will sleep anywhere to save a few bucks, though I'm sure there are many who'd like a nicer place. Last spring I slept one night in my truck at Guntersville, and I've seen fellow club members do that several times.

Crazy thought. What about a bunk house environment. $25.00 a night gets you clean sheets, a room that holds 10 bunk-beds, a common bath room with towels and soap, and a narrow bowling alley type wall locker you can lock your stuff up in while you sleep.

I like this idea........except I'd have multiple bunkhouses for 4. Shared bathrooms, and maybe a main kitchen room or something so folks can do some cooking.

This is very similar to the bunkhouses up at the outfitters I use in Canada. 25 bucks a person, and you'd probably break even on those times you rent to just 2 folks. Also this would eliminate the times when folks don't need room for 10 and don't want to share with unknown fisherman.

And Fly, even though you and I are on polar opposite sides of the fence, I'd still be happy to spend some money on a place like this.......I'd probably even drop some cash on the B and B idea, as long as it was close to the water.

A pickup/drop-off service would be a DEFINITE plus........I'd love to be able to float 10-20 miles and not worry about my vehicles, etc, etc.

    Later,

    Geo
