Broke my heart I have two good ponds I go to one turned over this past wensday. We went up and netted the fish as they came up and clean over a 100 pounds of cats, blue gills, crappie and largemouth. Cleaned 3 crappie that were close to 3 pounds they were 16 inches long by about 2 inches thick, I have been telling the guy he needed to take out more fish that the pond was over crowded. The bass population was stunted. I dont think it was a total kill off told him we now need to turn this into a big bass pond. Told him the pond was to small for crappie I dont think the crappie were reproducing anyway there was not much crappie. The lake turned over 15 years ago when he stocked it I quess those crappie were the original cant imagine them living that long but I never catch crappie there only in early spring and you catch those huge ones. Still all in all in breaks my heart to see this happen hopefully I wont loose a honey hole.
crappie can over populate a pond very easily. i fished a watershed lake that experienced that. we probably caught 150 crappie in the 4-6 inch range in 90 mins. i had 17 straight casts where i caught a crappie.
