Olgreen ... only thing I've heard is people are catching them at Green River Lake ... minnows in 17-25 fow. Spiderrigging & slow trolling/drifting over flats & brushpiles. They've been doing this for the past couple of months.

I'm not really sure what spiderrigging is but for the last couple months I have been catching a decent number of croppie fishing a dropshot rig where you can find a concentration of cover lying on the bottom in 10 to 15 feet of water... It seems it has been tough to find any fish shallower than that but they are starting to move as the numbers are beginning to drop off dramatically in the last couple weeks, still cant find anything close to the shoreline bushes but I am seeing more fish on the sonar back in the bays, so far haven't managed to catch any of those so I'm not sure what they are.
crappiepappy:
When the water gets down to 70 degrees will the crappie spawn again??
Well I was going to head out this morning but it is raining so I will wait until tue. or wed. I have better luck when every one is at work and the lake isn't full of boaters.
Thanks for the replies.
No ... Crappie only spawn once a year. Many people mistakenly think they are spawning again, in the Fall, when they find egg sacs in them, when cleaning them. Those are just next years eggs being developed. They won't grow much, during the cold water period, but when the water gets to warming up ... the fish will start feeding more often, so they can mature the eggs & to have the strength to go through the spawning process.crappiepappy:

Spider rigging is just multiple poles out the front/sides/back of the boat, usually held by a set/series of poleholders. This setup is used to slowly troll an area, offering many baits at once, and covering a wide path of water.
I'm pretty much a jig slinger, myself ... usually only resorting to using minnows as a Plan B.
I'm sending you a private message about something you might be interested in.

I went to green the other day and started around corbins bottom and there was 50 boats sitting on the drops out at corbins bottom..crappie fishing!!!! I had bought 50 minnows and could not get on any spot out there,,,so i went to a branch that had a channel that was about 22 ft in the middle of it and i seen fish stacked in the channel but on each side of the channel there was trees and cover every where,,so i went over and dropped minnows beside of the cover and trees and guess what??? Never caught nothing!!! So i went back out in the middle of the channel and dropped some minnows off the side of the boat in 22 ft of water and let them hit the bottom and made 1 crank up and caught 28 crappie in less than 45 mins from 10 1/2 inches long to 13 inches long big fat slabs!!!
One man seen me out there and said what the crap are you doing out there in the middle of that channel???? 5 mins later he understood and he to was boating them right beside me..
First time i ever done that with no cover or trees or any kind of cover what so ever... Just a deep channel going to the end of a branch.. Alot of people would have seen all those fish in the middle of the channel and wrote it off as being some other kind of fish,,but i will always check situations out like that again..:d
they are biting good at cumberland up in the creeks caught some really good ones 2 days ago more numbers on jigs but the bigger fish came on minners 12 to 15 feet deep also had 2 nice flatheads on minners
Went to Barren last Thursday and caught 21 9-11" crappie and at least that many more short fish. On creek channel over cover that was 12' deep. fish about 6-8 ft deep. caught all on roadrunner.
Went to same spot Sat. pm. caught 1 keeper and 1 short?
thats why they call it fishin and not catchin![]()
Bite is really good at rough river right now. Find some submerged brush or a bush and throw small 1 1/2 tubes
