    Dix River

Hey guys, I went to Dix river last saturday, had a great time even though not a lot of fish were caught. I have a Tracker pro 17 and was able to get back to the riffles, which is as far as I have ever made it back there before.

Can anyone tell me how much further it is past the riffles to get to the dam base?

Probably somewhere between a quarter of a mile and a half. In my limited experience, that area is by far the best fishing.

I agree! We used to run a jon boat up to the riffle and bring along a canoe as well. We'd beach the jon boat and then carry the canoe up past the riffle and fish all the way up to the dam in the canoe...it is the best fishing as far as numbers go, BUT we've found that the bigger trout are just below the riffle and are a little more difficult to catch.

I was surprised at how many bass we caught last time I was there. All of our bass where caught below the trophy area that is posted. We used tubes and crankbaits and between my boat and another boat we had 5-6 bass in an hour or so. I left and they prolly caught more since they had them figured out.
I also have been there are had a tough time so I guess it's just finding the fish and getting them to bite. It's beautiful for sure.

Any good spotted bass? I've heard there are a some good ones in that area, but I haven't ever tried for them...usually after the trout when I go there.

I hooked four decent fish that day, but they were all below the artificial bait posting. bad part was I did not see any of the fish I hooked, so I no idea what they were.

I would love to be able to get to face of dam, but usually there by myself and do not want to leave a full boat unattended there. Bad enough to get something taken,m worse if current manages to break boat free.

I may wait until late spring and see if i can get there when water may be a bit deeper.

That area is slowly becoming my favorite place to go.

We used kayaks a few times so we could pick them up and walk them around the riffles. I got a decent Hybrid up there right at the water release last time we went up.

So the last time you were there was the last time I was there? Boy - it's been far too long....for both of us.

(Actually, just remembered I went one more time about 2 weeks after that, but it's still been too long.)

I went in my Jon Boat with my girlfriend back in July and had a very good day with largemouth. Saw the other boat net a few over 3-4 lbs. We left the fish when they were biting so we could get back to a dinner engagement.

I had to have help getting my boat up the ramp since it was wet and I had driven my highlander and it's front wheel drive only. Thank goodness for the two young men who were there.....of course i was blocking the ramp!

Yeah - I'm pretty sure I'd be hesitant to put my bass boat in at that ramp....even with the 4 wheel drive on my Jeep.

Had one decent spot (13" and fat) where the Kentucky and Dix meet but thats the only one I caught. Never have seen many out of there. Mostly see largemouth myself.
