I just use a 1/2 oz egg weight above swivel where I tie the leader. Why would you run the keel weight for the noise of the chain and weight?? Just curious not so sure noise is great idea for stripers with live bait like that.
Is that what you are thinking or is there another reason?

Bob, are you talking about the weights that are in the bottom of the board itself? If so yes i would leave it in there because it keeps the board floating upright and running more "true". I like that when you turn the board won't be as apt to tangle in the line unless you turn to sharp and run the inside boards over the outside lines...lol.

If the weights in the board are what you are talking about, I agree to run as well. I had one that the weight came out of and it did not track anywhere close to as the ones with the weights. The only reason to take out is if you were going to weght the line with heave weights to get them down to deep deeper depth and not sink the planer in my opinion. If you do that then it will track straight due to the heavy sinker under neath it.

Thanks guys! I did mean the weights built into the boards.

I'm think about dragging some big 9 inch Storm Wid Eye Shad Swimbaits about 50 feet back from the boards. The swimbaits are heavy, about 2-2.5 ounces each. I was gonna do this while trolling around on the big motor looking for jumps. But if the jumps go up clse, and want to be able to stop, and cast. I was worried the boards would sink. I think I'll experiment and see what happens.

Appreciate the help on the weights thing. Didn't know how the boards would react with no wights, but smarter now.
