    Fishing lease????

[FONT=Calibri]With the popularity of hunting leases has anyone heard of folks leasing water to fish? I live in Oldham co. and am interested finding someplace to take my kids fishing. I might be willing to pay for access to a private body of water. I’d even be willing to take part in managing it, it would be a cool project to take on with the kids, building habitat and controlling species populations. If anyone is leasing a farm to hunt that has some water on it and the land owner has said that they could fish too, maybe I could chip in on the lease just to fish, not interested in hunting? Also, I’m sure there are some existing sportsman clubs that have some water that they manage for their members to fish, does anyone know of any in Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Shelby or Bullitt counties? Great idea. You might consider spending some time using google maps and looking for large ponds off of the road in the areas you mentioned. Once identified, with a little more work you can then trace them to a landowner. Times are tough right now so leasing fishing rights with a contract in place to protect everybody might be something a farmer would do.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

    Re: Fishing lease????

Funnily enough I just did this with a fairly small private pond owned (supposedly) by a Homeowner's Association. I paid for a temporary pass since I am not a Homeowner. Yesterday I went to fish the pond for the first time.

I had a pretty good day with the fish, not so good with a neighbour. He came out to his back yard and introduced himself as a self-professed jerk and promptly asked me to get off his land. I told him about my pass but he was adamant I had to move, even threatened to call the police.

Now I need to decide whether I need to request a refund or stick it out and see if the pond is still fishable once all the reeds around the edge recede.

Bottom line here is: Be sure to check and double check what your lease/pass entitles you to.

    Re: Fishing lease????

Leasing is very popular in europe, where there is very little public land. My advice would be to contact the county agents in some of the places you might like, and see if some pond owners are open to such an idea.
