Re: stoner creek and smallmouth bass

We had a thread going about Stoner Creek on here not too long ago. I hadn't ever fished it, but I heard it was pretty good & close to Lex, which is a huge plus. Come to find out its $10 to bank fish at Frymans (I think that was the name of the place), which I'm still debating rather or not I'm going to go & pay that. If I keep hearing good reports though I'm going to have to go check it out. I think my best bet would be to get my buddy with the Jon Boat to get off his couch & tow it up there-

Re: stoner creek and smallmouth bass

I've been fishing stoner for 20+ years, and I have caught more smallmouth out of that creek this past year than the last ten years combined. I think the bronzebacks are doing quite well in that little creek this year. I know I certainly hope to see the trend continue. I personally haven't caught any smallies bigger than a couple pounds out of there, but I do know the creek has the ecosystem to support some nice ones. I can't imagine that their diet would be much different than the largemouths in the creek, and I have seen some very healthy LM"s come out of there over the years.

Being new too fishing SM i have found out that they like moving water & it don't matter how deep it is.In fact i like it thin but it needs holes, curves, eddies, shoals etc. Plus the food crayfish, shinners, sucker, snakes etc.I think clear water is best.Thats what my hunny hole has & where i caught my trophy SM on 9/9/11
Being that it is my 1st yr fishing this creek i don't know how it was before.I hope stoner creek only gets better & aways take pictures & haul some trash home. Some day i'd like too fish Stoner if anyone wants too meetup & float it.

Ive caught five in the past two weeks three went over 15 inch. Ive been fishing Frymans for 5-6 years now, about every weekend, and have only caught 2 in the past. They have certainly turned on this fall. Brian...

Re: stoner creek and smallmouth bass

Stoner is a great little creek to fish... Over the years it seems to have been mostly LM but now and then you would run into a day when you would catch several SM , below paris it has been a different story guys who fish it have told me, I never was a SM fisherman but they are a fun fish to catch when you get into them... Smallmouth in stoner between paris and ruddles mills has a reputation for good smallmouth fishing, Would be great if that would expand to include the two pools above paris as well... To the fella that is considering fishing there for the first time, I haven't fished the creek from the bank so I don't know how good the fishing is from the bank but if that is what you do, if you have a bad day don't let that stop you from fishing it from a boat, it is a great place to spend some time on the water and it is like any other place, the fishing can be good or slow and boat launching is half the price of bank fishing although I think the 10 dollar price might be for a carload of something like that, that might make it a decent price to take your family fishing for a day.
