    KY/Barkley Lake Help

Looks like we will be fishing Ky or Barkley lake this weekend out of the kayaks.

Does anyone have any suggestions on places we could fish with the kayaks on either of these lakes and catch some bass or crappie?

What are the fish being caugh on or around this time of year?

I am sure there are many areas where you can do this. But I have seen alot of people put in at the Sugar Bay ramp on Ky and fish that bay with a kayack. It primitive camping but easy access to the water with a kayack. You can access the ramp off of the trace.

Another possibility might be putting in at Smith Bay. Smith has some pretty good fishing, as does Sugar Bay.

You could also camp at Hillman Ferry campground (on the N. end of the LBL) and fish in Pisgah Bay. Some campsites are lakefront.

Man be careful the Rengade Classic is Thur - Sat. Will have around 200 boats and are putting in a N. Barkley. You will have lot's of company in the north bays on Thur and Fri. Sat the field is cut way down. Most of these guys are good ol boys but you know there is always a few..... I would suggest going below the 68 bridge to get out of the mess.
    Good luck

I would also suggest below 68/80.

There is a great area south on Barkley........Linton recreation area. I've stuck a serious amount of bass there too.

And just around the corner north from there is open water on Barkley, but there are some great areas there for catching some schoolers.....whites and largemouth.

south of Linton on Barkley are some nice smallie areas. Those areas where the river kiss the bluffs on the east side........Big hammer swimbaits..........

    Later,

South end of either Barkley or Kentucky, lilly pads are starting to turn color due to cool nights-Birdsong-hornytoad you wont get run over back in those southern bays.
Tn is more rural with less commercialism however 80 percent or more of ky lake is in it.
    Barkley is more stained
Schoolers are actually feeding on 5 in or so threadfin shad right now on main lake gravel points at bay mouths, and the pads are still producing even though turning color, but should you need to can get out and walk to shore.

The lbl campsites are away from the crowd, primative however.
