This was on 60 Minutes last week. That Ray Kelly is one impressive dude. I was kind of surprised how much they revealed, but I'm sure there's a WHOLE lot more they did not!

Impressive Road Toad. I would expect nothing less from a tough Irish cop![]()
When he talked about defending against an air type attack I was SURE he was talking about stingers or something of the such......
After a little research I found out he was talking about the barrett 50, which can take out an engine block......
NOT quite the same, but still impressive........

Interesting to see the video analytics being used. We have been involved with that for a year or so. Technology like that replaces people for gathering data and it's amazing how well it works.
Cool video.
Now lets compare and contrast what is being done in NY and what was/is being done with the Patriot Act??
I don't see how folks think it is OK to use the tools the NYPD are using and NOT OK to use the tools the FEDS use under the patriot act.
I would think that the VIDEO stuff is way more intrusive, but hey, that is just me....An example.....from the story, if someone committed a crime and that person was wearing a hot pink shirt, then EVERYONE in ANY video feed is a potential suspect, and EVERYONE and ANYONE is immediately queried using their magical tools........
WOW........if that doesn't scare the crap out of you nothing will.
Now,...........Since I'm a law abiding citizen and really I'm kind of on the fence with this, but still......

Good point....Thats true and I can see how some would actually get offended by that.
My view is we live in a different world today and if it takes software with a specific set of parameters loaded into a computer looking at me or grouping me into a search because I have a sleevless shirt or BPS Camo Hat on then so be it. Personally I'm cool with it.
I know of some law enforcment local trucks here in Lexington that use FLIR cameras and other infared cameras for surveillance from unmarked trucks. I bet if folks knew what they can be viewed doing in the black of night they would be upset.![]()
It is a different world and I don't think I have an issue either, but I'm AMAZED by the silence on it......
This is not a PUB or DEM issue either, because pieces are being implemented under both admins, but I wonder why no one is screaming over their liberties......

There's no comparison between what was shown in that piece and what is being done under the Patriot Act. All that camera monitoring is being done in PUBLIC places, where you have no reasonable expectation of privacy. And no, being "queried by their magical tools" doesn't frighten me one bit. They'll be able to tell me from the bad guys pretty easily, I'm sure.
During the past year or so I've been spending a little bit of time in New York during the week on business. After seeing this clip from 60 Minutes I gaurantee they had me on survelliance at some point or another, especially since I was on the roof of the 10th floor and the roof of the 19th floor sections of this particular building that sits smack dab across from the Israeli Embassy Building. Downtown Manhattan.
I sure hate that measures as expensive as these have to be taken now days but at the same time I'm glad they're being implemented. My gawd man, the world, the United States inparticularly, sure ain't what it used to be.
Our business in the residential CCTV market is rising as well. Folks are wanting to capture video of their properties while away on vacation or at times it can replace a security system. The motion detection of cameras now can trigger an email to you that you can get on your smart phone or iPad.
Of course it can also trigger a communicator to call the central station who in turn calls the police. The world of systems integration is getting very cool and if you can think it ....it can be done. Very cool stuff.
