Thanks Chub your timing on this post was timely as well. I just lost a family member today who lived a long life. She always told her kids as well as me to ignore what everyone else was doing and make our own lives. Thanks
Sure am sorry to hear of your loss Joe...losing someone ain't no fun. That's pretty wild though, her telling her children the same thing Steve Jobs was basically telling that graduating class....ignore what everyone else is doing, follow the narrow road (your own road), if you don't feel the passion in what you're doing then be patient and don't give up. It will come in due time.
Joe,
Sorry to read of your loss. Hope all is well.
Tim,
I watched that speech and it was awesome. I didn't get wrapped up into all the sorrow of his death.... Mainly because I didn't know the guy. I respected his work and his accomplishments and his contributions to the technology world and feel for his family.
I feel more sorrow for the military men/women and family members who have lost loved ones fighting/defending our soil, rights and liberties. They have enabled us all to pursue our dreams.
Surely, not hijacking your thread because his message was worth watching.![]()
I hear what you're saying Don...I didn't lose any sleep over his death either. But knowing what little I know about the guy I certainly respect how he made it to where he did. You thought the speech was awesome...I'm not sure I would describe it as awesome, but it certainly was meanigful and thought provoking, considering at the time he gave the speech he had just beat his first bout with pancreatic cancer (I think it was pancreatic anyway). I just thought everyone might want to watch it, maybe stop to think about it a little, and that each person might walk away with something a little different from it. I mean you know...Steve Jobs man! From rags to riches on his own, having experienced being a poor adopted kid to living life on top of the world to experiencing a life-changing event as he gives a speech to a graduating class of college folks about to embark on their own journey in life.Joe,
Sorry to read of your loss. Hope all is well.

Hijack any of my threads all you want, same goes for anyone else as long as they're respectful. It's only type written words on a computer screen, we can all get along here and hopefully walk away from here better off than when we arrived.
Thanks for posting... what can I say..........http://news.stanford.edu/news/2005/j...bs-061505.html

ummm Was he a personal friend of someone on this board? I dont see why all the hoo ha over his death. It is always sad when someone who is young has to die of cancer but it happens all around us everyday. Prayers are for the family he left behind. I guess to America he is a hero cuz he lived your American Dream of starting a business and getting super rich. Yes that he did. I guess that is what alot of you aspire too.
So, what are you trying to say?????ummm Was he a personal friend of someone on this board? I dont see why all the hoo ha over his death. A personal friend to someone here? C'mon....most likely not.ummm Was he a personal friend of someone on this board? I dont see why all the hoo ha over his death. Yes...I wouldn't mind being filthy rich. But depending on one's definition of rich, well....I'm rich in many ways, very VERY blessed actually. Got all I need, that's for sure.
As the saying goes "Dont count your chickens until they have hatched". What you think you have and need now maybe gone in the blink of an eye!
He wasn't so much a "hero," he was one of the great minds of our time. Many many people are paying respects to him all over the world, Gills, including up in Canada, and it's not because he was rich. I'm surprised at your attitude; I thought you realized that not all we Americans are selfish money-grubbers any more than all Canadians drink Yukon Jack and say "eh?" all the time.ummm Was he a personal friend of someone on this board? what attitude? I paid respects by saying he was too young to die and send prayers to his family. He was a guy who made gadgets and toys for people and made a ton of money for it. People die all the time and I dont see them mentioned so I am trying to understand it. No reason for you folks to get yourselves all worked over it. "Me think thou doth protest too much"
If I am still around here when Bill Gates dies I promise I wont say a word.![]()
