Re: Uk vs SC
South Carolina was overrated from the get-go this year, in my opinion. They're a Top 25 team, but they weren't the #10 team in the country as advertised in the polls so far. The combination of Garcia, Lattimore, Jeffries, and Spurrier was driving that ranking. I believe they're #18 now, which is more like it. Garcia is up and down like a yo-yo and I hear he has been replaced for the starting job today against UK. Time clock management cost them the game against Auburn last weekend, along with inconsistent QB play. Lattimore is scary, but our defense isn't the worst I've seen. We might hang awhile. It just depends on what team shows up.
Spurrier and his crew will want revenge after we beat them last year at Commonwealth....but they're also coming off a let down loss against Auburn. We'll see...
As for our QB situation, I really don't know what the answer is. Much to the chagrin of many UK fans, we're actually missing Mike Hartline. It also helps to have receivers that can put 2 hands on the ball and catch it when it is thrown at the numbers. Dropped passes have been ridiculous this year so far. I do believe that Newton>Smith, but that's not saying much.
AND, as long as the play calling continues to be conservative as can be, we won't be in many games. My Grandmother has bigger balls than Joker Phillips. I go back to the 2nd Quarter vs Florida, at home, down 28-0, 4th and 1 on the 40...and we punt...with nothing to lose. That told me a lot.
