It's pretty accurate.
I was sitting in a fast food joint the other day eating lunch with some friends of mine. This guy walks in, hands an application to the lady behind the counter, and asks her to sign a piece of paper...which I assume was from the unemployment office. The lady says, "You know, we actually need a couple of people for nights, let me get my manager." The guy says: "No, that's alright. Just sign the paper for me. That's all I need." She does, and he walks out.
That pretty much says it all right there.
I'm paying for that guy to spend a few minutes a week filling out job applications, taking them around, and getting a piece of paper signed saying that he is doing it...so that he can get his check. After all, he is "actively seeking employment." Yeah. Right. I'm also an astronaut and I own this bar too.
There are a lot of people out there who can't find work...the economy *****...and I get that, I really do. I'm not so cold and callous as to say that we should do nothing for those folks. Jobs that pay the bills are not easy to come by for everyone. But, the welfare system is broken, plain and simple.
