    OCAW Oil Chemicals, and atomic workers.At one time, Whiting and East Chicago In, had 7 working refinerys. Probably the same amount of chemical plants. The refinerys moved to TX and La. {by the way most of them are still unionized to some extent]The main reason was the oil and natural gas in that area.The atomic workers were part of the work force at oak ridge Tn. Also one of the largest refiners in that area, [standard oil], blew up, burned for 2 whole days. When it was rebuilt, it was the start of computer operating systems, a couple of thousand emplyees were never called back.
