Not making a pro/con argument here and don't want to kick off a big debate, but... I know a guy who did something like this. He's the uncle of one of my friends. He owned a small furniture manufacturing company in Mississippi in the 80's. His employees voted to unionize, so he closed the company down. His argument was that they didn't risk investing in a new business and just wanted to leech away the profits once it was up and running.
