I'd run up the trace and pick any of the deeper coves with lots of fingers. Also, there are some neat coves on the Barkley side too. Nevell branch south of 68/80 comes to mind. Also, Fords has a campground in the back of it, so I know there are roads back there, and that always holds fish this time of year.

Don't know road-wise how to get there but there is a small unimproved gravel ramp in the back of Pryor creek which is near the KY-Tennesse line. Good bay.

That's the neat thing about the big lakes and kayak / canoe fishing. Although I wouldn't venture out on the main lake in a people powered boat there are a lot of bays with back road access. You could fish several in a day if so desired...

I think its Fords bay i was talking about now that i looked at a map.Went too Barren river and put in at 100 way up river.Caught a bunch of small bass on a spinner bait.I would slow role it and when it got right up too the kayak i would see the fish & drop it and bam.A few just fell off as i picked the pole up.Big fish was 14 3/4 LM.Was a great day too wet a line.

Fords bay is a very good bay too. I have a friend that has taken two double-digit bass from that bay in years past. It is back in the Wrangler horse camp area and like Pryor has a gravel ramp that you can launch small boats. Never have been back either road but both bays are good bays. Donaldson has access on the other side of the lake and would be intersting to kayak.

South Barkley is a favorite area of mine in spring and late fall...

Are you talking about Devil's Elbow? I love that place in the spring, especially for flipping.

Fords is on down a bit, by Duck Island and directly across from Donaldson. It has some great stumps in it, and deep water. That channel bend and flat near the mouth is a nice spot to fish. In the back of it, you get a lot of horse traffic on pretty days - was back there flipping one day in the spring, and a group of horses pretty well walked right up to my boat to ask me if I was catching anything.

Man, I'm always too chicken to run up that east side of the island.........I fish that area a lot, but not enough to be comfortable with all the shallow water areas. I've eaten a few props there...............Barkley has a taste for Mercury Aluminum..........I hear it tastes like chicken

    Re: Land between the lakes

I had such an encounter in Ford bay one day but I wasn't flipping -- I was "watering the daisies". Ya think ya are out there all by your lonesome and then ya look up to see a pack of riders right there. Those were some pretty quiet horses -- that is until the laughter started...
