Battery recommendation?

What batteries would anybody on this site recommend? Cranking or Trolling.

I have had good luck with Superlex. I used the class 31 for my trolling motor and I got 5 years out of them and I fish year round. When I replaced them I went with Deka because I could not find a local dealer. Same 31 class and am on 2 years and no issues there either. I have had problems with other batteries in the past but these have been my best by far and I have owned boats for 20 years.

I use nothing but superlex 31D for the deep cycle and as soon as my original crank needs replaced i will use them for it. The local Louisville area dealer is Kentucky Battery Outlet on Blue Lick Rd, just on the Bullitt Co, Jefferson County Line. You savings will be significant and the quality of the batteries is superb

I've had good luck with Interstates for both purposes. Lots of different shops carry these so price shop.

I've also just and had good luck with Stowaways's from Walmart or TSC.

Best advice on longevity: Buy a good charger and charge after each use, and during periods of storage. Keep the sales receipt, and read the warranty, then take care of the batteries, and work hard at making the vendor honor the warranty on a properly maintained battery. I can say, Walmart has stood behind their stuff, and TSC has for me at my local stores.

I was told there was only 2 battery manufacturers but didn't know who they were. One other thing to do is keep your battery from freezing. If it gets below 20F. I either bring mine inside or place a 25 watt bulb beside it.

I had decka batteries for trolling motor last me five years. They are pricey. about $159 each

Freezing never heard of that one before. I know during winter and the none usage period I'll drain my down with a 75 watt light bulb and recharge it.

Batteries are too much science for me to understand...but here is what I am thinking as of late.

I used to get only 2 years out of a trolling motor battery regardless of the brand. I didn't hook up the charger wnen I got back home and I used a Schumacher charger (usually about 60 bucks). I burned up a lot of batteries-interstate, Walmart and others.

Now I charge as soon as I am off the water and use a 6 amp Battery Tender charger on the trolling battery and the smaller one in the starting battery. Things are much better now and my boat is always ready to go because they are made to leave on. Once charged it does a float charge and an leave it on all winter. Dual pro is also a good charger. There are other discussions on batteries and chargers if you use the search feature on this board.

Don't know which battery us best. Purchased AC Delco last time on the recommendation of somebody on this board.

I agree with Peter, charge trolling motor batteries when you get off the lake. I use battery chargers 6/10 amp on mine when I back it into the garage.I hit mine once every three weeks during the winter months. Currrently I am running Duracell's that I got at Sam's Club. Tollers are 18 month free with 36 monthprorated replacement. I am using a group 65 Duracell 1080 Cold crankin amps 3yr free replacement and 86 month prorated for the starter on my E-tec. I have a Walmart deep cycle 4 years old that I use as a backup and to run my power sprayer for weeds and brush. Hope this helps.

Heat is the real battery killer. You just notice the drain in cold weather when you need the cold cranking amps. On-board chargers and charging as soon as you get home are the way to go for sure. Even the cheapest battery will last several years if maintained properly.

Couldn't agree with you more. Maintenance is the key to battery life. first thing I do is charge the batteries after a trip. I seem to get 5+ yrs. out of all batteries I have ever had regardless of the brand.
