In our pledge of allegiance, under God wasn't there. We could even pray in public schools[if we wanted to].We didn't need the 10 commandments displayed all over the landscape, WE Knew Them.We also followed them a lot more closly than they do today. There wasn't a major drug problem in our schools. But I'm not going to go any further.
Also corporal punishment was in the schools when I went to school...Just the thought of going to the principle office for a paddling with that big ole paddle made a lot of kids toe the line.

I got a couple of them paddles used on my back side while I was in school and deserved each one I got... also I got it again when I got home from school from my dad..... So I knew if I screwed up at school, it was gonna be double the pain...so I (tried ) to toe the line .....

Bring back those paddles in the schools and by cracky use them...These kids will get the message that you can't mess around and screw up, not obey the rules and such while in school.....I do believe if used right, this type of action would keep a lot more students walking the straight and narrow.....Instead of straying off of the right path....

For a number of years I attended parochial school, I didn't know what corporal punishment was. I though it was a seldom used part of the curriculum.

You know, they tried to take it off money a few years ago...........

I'm just saying, LOTS of folks think God has nothing to do with country, but personally, I think it has as much a place as anything else.

Some disagree, yet it is plastered all over our monuments, our money, our court systems, our judicial systems, EVERYWHERE.........but it has NOTHING to do with this great country.

It would be nice to see them pass something with some substance that would actually help the country, but instead we get this!

Agree with Tim on this one. The whole thing is a joke, seriously. Back in 1956 congress passed a law stating that In god we trust is the national motto. So all the house did was reaffirm that the law is still valid. Seriously, they could not find anything better to do with their time than that? And they wonder why their approval rating is something like 8%.

I would be a lot more excited about the In God We Trust legislation if we actually did.

Ronald Reagan stated, " If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under".

A real concern for America in my opinion.

If plastering "In God We Trust" everywhere is so important to our country, then why didn't the Founding Fathers do it? And why is it we got along just fine without it as a national motto until 1956?

And yeah, they couldn't find anything more important to do with their time?

    Re: In God we Trust

I agree with Al Mohler about this issue.

In summary, Mohler agrees with court findings that "In God We Trust" represents "civil religion". That is, something that has absolutely no theological impact whatsoever, and it's dangerous to confuse civil religion with faith in Christ.

Atheists will NOT win on this issue....at least I hope not.

God is plastered all over our founding DOCUMENTS. Read a few.

Had our founding fathers ever thought that our beloved gubment would try to remove God from our lives, well they might have taken some other issues.

Separation of Church and State or whatever you WANT to call it was all about not creating a CHURCH of the United States.....The Church of England and government of England were one in the same. Our founders didn't want that, but they certainly also DIDN'T want gubment banning the 10 commandments, or redacting GOD from documents, or GOD FORBID....gay marriage.

    GIVE me a break.
