How do you guys feel? You'd you rather pay an extra 2 or 3 dollars for a Rapala or Strike King or stick with you cheaper Bandit or Xps. Do you think buying the more expensive Rapala's that look more realistic will catch more fish than you standard crank bait?

But also the action
The name brands in my opinion work better and appear

I'd pay the 2 or 3 dollars extra, but i'm not above throwing a bandit by no means. The bandit is actually one of my favs.
When it comes to striper, give me a cheap lookin little mac any day, but needless to say i've spent some money on the Rapala slivers as well.

What it all boils down to for me, if it catches fish, i'll use it even if it cost $1.

Its not so much about the price but how the lure performs and the conditions at hand. There are certain times that a Lucky Craft Deep Diver will get a bite when a DD22 will not get a bite and vise versa. Right now a 200 series Bandit is working really well for me but a Lucky Craft RC2.5 is not.
Also keep in mind that a higher priced lure will have better hooks and alot of times will have better finish that will hold up longer.

As far as the price of crank baits go, i think they are all way over priced. The time and cost of materials to produce the plastic ones amounts to pennies. I know the molds, equipment, and designing adds to it. But it still doesn't justify the cost we pay.

BTW - Would you believe the price that Toyota pays for a Painted plastic wheel cover, is cheaper than what we pay for a Mid priced crank bait at Wal Mart?

I wish we could do a 100% true instant replay test.

Throw a cheap bait, catch a massive smallie, then put it back in exactly the same spot, zap it's memory, and cast him an expensive bait and see if he hits it too.

How would we really, actually, know?

You can crash test 2 exactly same cars, at the same speed, and see different occupant results with and without seatbelts. Wish we could do that with fishing lures.

Me, I pitch what I have the most confidence in, and what I can afford to replace if it works.

i buy virtually all my baits used anymore,i have well over 300 old shad raps,some look rough most have never been thrown,most less than 3.00,most came from bassboat central,i like the old wee r and and old model a's and bandits.i refuse to pay what the stores get for them,and i can catch alot of fish on them old baits,as far as finish i don't go for uppedy looking paint jobs,some that i catch the most fish on are what i painted with spray cans.the name brands are probably better day in day out,but i have some ol cheap wal mart baits i catch em on too.since i don't fish tournaments much i don't really worry about it.so if any of you guys have some old model a's and wee r's that look very rough,i would love to have them.

I might pay up to $7.00 for a bait but I find it very hard to justify the double-digit prices on baits.

Prolly have more bandits than anything. I'll pay $7-$10 for a bait but when it gets to $17 or up I better be using a gift card!!

I agree 100%. Fishing a bait with confidence is just as important as what that bait is. If you don't think a bait will catch fish it probably won't.
