I smoked and chewed tobacco for 25 years, before my youngest son was born in 99' (11 years difference between him and my daughter,15 years between him and my oldest son) I decided I needed to change my lifestyle so I could live long enough to raise my little one.
The first thing I did was convince myself 100% that I wanted to quit,I then took a mild anti-depressant Zyban for one month before I even tried to quit and for 3 months total,I also used a little 12 step philosophy by saying a little prayer to my higher power (God) every morning upon waking and before bedtime.
I never once craved a cigarette, but did catch myself reaching into my shirt pocket where I kept packs at and a few times sticking a carpenters pencil in my mouth as I used to work with a cigarette dangling from my mouth at all times.
The worst thing that happened was my metabolism slowed to a crawl and gained some weight, but a good diet and excercise plan can fix that.
Before my back injury I could work most younger men into the ground and ran up and down mountains digging ginseng and hunting without a huff or a puff.
I felt so much better and It's one of the smarter things I've ever done especially with the high cost of tobacco these days,I save alot of money.
I've watched my father-in-law,my brother, and at least 3 close friends die from lung cancer, throat cancer, and emphysemia because of tobacco use,it's not a pleasant way to go.
