Re: For those of you who have lost interest in boxing

My money is on Tim. I am in a profession where a lot of guys come in and from all sorts of backgrounds. I have buddies that boxed, MMA and military. When it comes to the fighting the military guys do the worst. Usually the MMA guys are top, then boxing. I wrestled so I try to take guys to the ground and that is where I do the best. Problem is I have a hard time getting a guy like Tim on the ground when you are getting hit in the face. My experience is both in training and on the street. I have seen some bad ^%& street fighters give several of us a very good run for the money. I have the scars to prove that.

With that said the best shots all come out of the military.

Ryan I often wondered how you guys approached the physical aspect of your job. So do you mandatory classes in self defense? Maybe a mix of martial arts hold and self defense? I can't imagine dealing with some of the knuckleheads I see getting arrested. Some are big enough I think I would want to taser his or her but first!

No Don there is nothing mandatory once you get out of the police academy. There should be. It helps to be a good talker. But the best thing I have found is an old piece of Hickory. The old wood nightsticks got me out of more fights than anything else. When guys were thinking about bucking up you could pull it out and 9-10 they did not want any part of it. I guess it is just a psychological thing.

But, when you did have to use it, it sounded like a big leaguer hitting a home run. Everybody could hear that crack a mile away.
