I guess that I have a strange attitude toward life. It is my belief, that at a minimun, you should try to leave this world in better shape when you die than when you were born. I live in a rural area where there are lots of small farms. In the past when there was a death in someones family or an illness, I have helped to cut and put their tobacco in the barn, worked in their hay, cut their grass, cut wood for them, or whatever was needed to help out. The red cross has collected more than 10 gallons of my blood over the years. I have been known to provide older folks transportation to doctor appointments, carry someone who is unable to drive to see their spouse/family in the hospital, and help them out some financially if times were rough and I was able. I have been a volunteer fireman for more than 20 years now, donating my time freely, made fire runs at all hours of the day and night to try to help save their homes and automobiles, and assist on wrecks and medical runs. This is my history believe what you will. But I value the life of my dog much more than the lives of some of the people who live in my community. They are the ones who you hear about on the radio and read about each week in the police reports in the newspaper. The spend their lives making meth, stealing from their neighbors, vandalizing other peoples property, abusing children, beating their spouse, in some cases committing armed robbery, and having children they cannot afford to raise. Those people are takers, they take much more from society than they give back. Their lives provide no positive benefits to anyone and the air they breathe and the food they eat is completely wasted. I have somewhat jokingly told some of my neighbors that every community really needs a community backhoe. When you find these people doing illegal acts, use the backhoe. My wife and I raised 2 productive children, both are married, have jobs, one is active duty military, and both would willingly help their friends and neighbors in any way. But there are some people out there that the world, and the responsible people in it, would be much better off without. They are less than worthless. My dog is my friend, provides companionship and provides warning when someone comes around. She provides much more value to the world than those people I was talking about. Just my opinion.
