I do know a select few that turned out great....Good jobs ....family...ect.ect. But it seems those that grew up with money are the ones that ended up struggling the most with actual life itself...especially when mommy and daddy had, had enough...Oh I agree this ain't 25 years ago Billy, but I still believe each individual is different. In some the Military breeds responsibility, but I have seen others that it really didn't help. I have seen guys who once they got out of the military couldn't ever hold a steady job, they would bounce around from one to the next pretty aimlessly. I think these types didn't learn responsibility as much as they learned to do what they are told. Once the military structure was gone, they didn't really no what to do.
On a side note, since Mills brought it up, here is my military experience. I joined the Army when I was 18. Two weeks before I was supposed to leave for boot camp (I think at Ft. Sill, OK) I broke a bone in my right hand boxing. I ended up having surgery and have steel pin in it now. Because I was medically unable to attend basic, they gave me an honorable discharge! Technically I am a veteran according to the official document, depsite the fact that all I did was take the physical, sing the papers and swear in.
And before anybody ask, I don't know where my discharge papers are and I do not consider myself a veteran because I never actually served. On any paperwork I feel out if it ask if I am a veteran I always answer no!
You just described my 21-year-old nephew to a "T"
Tim,Bplcards - Mills ain't gonna go out to dinner or do anything else in Louisville...he doesn't just hate U of L Athletics, he's a big time hater of this city. Never seen someone dislike where they live as much as Mills has mentioned that he hates it here in Louisville. Everyone I know of likes it here, except Mills. I'm not 100% positive but I think he may even dislike the entire state of Kentucky.
Old enough to go to war, old enough to vote, old enough to drink. This is how I have always seen it.
I have lived in Hawaii, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Spain and now Kentucky. While all the other locations have their special places in my life I proudly call Lexington home. The birth of my daughter, the wonderful people and the beauty of the state have made this state home. Been here since 1996 and for the most part enjoy it. I have to say the Winters can sukk but the rest is purty good.
I'm sure I'll move when I retire and my sights are set on Hawaii. Already have wittled it down too a few islands that I gotta choose from.![]()
I agree that alcoholism is a huge problem, as is drunk driving. If you are one of those "lucky one's" who have the genetic makeup that makes you predisposed to alcohol abuse, I feel sorry for you. It truly *****.Agreed! Actually kind of funny how drinking is allowed in so many areas (of course I know it's legal and all the years of prohibition) of our life. That dang liquid has been the root of so many evils in our society. Kinda sad to see folks who have let it control their lives in one way or another.
I know you have stopped Tim and I hope your life and health is better for it. Congrats to you!
All that being said, I still made the choice to drink, it was my problem and I had to take responsibility for it. Many people can drink and control it, those of us like me, can't. It is as simple as that.
