Giant difference in college and high school. If you are not smart enough to see that nobody can help you!Srry, but I don't like the idea of putting the sale of beer so close to the kids at the games. I know they are gonna sneak stuff in and some get caught, some don't. But why try and supply the stuff ?
I agree with netboy, beer has no place at a College sporting event, kids are underage...So if it's ok for beer sales at a College event where you have underage kids..Then it should be fine for beer sales at High School events since they have underage kids there as well.....? Looks like that could be a message you that want beer at these events.
People who don't want to drink won't, and those that do will whether it is sold at the arena or not. Here's a little tidbit mills- UK is a dry campus, meaning no alcohol, unless it is a gameday! Before you try to argue, I went to school there. What do you think about that? Talk about encouraging underaged students to drink.... Also, having the alcohol available at the game prevents bindging before hand (like all UK students)Srry, but I don't like the idea of putting the sale of beer so close to the kids at the games. Moot point. ANYONE could leave there plastered and the consequences are the same, if you drink and drive you go to jail. If you aren't responsible enough to have a DD or get a cab you have other problems. So a car full of Louisville College Kids leave the Yum Center, lose control and have a wreck. All 4 kids are DOA and it is determined all of them had blood levels above the legal limit. It is also determined that eyewitness accounts of these 4 purchased numerous Beers at the Yum Center during the basketball game. Hypothetical Situation: Now where do you stand on the topic?
Remember tailgating at football games is nationwide.
At Rupp once you are in you are in....you leave, you cant come back in until the game is over. So those that hammer it down, get a chance to come down before the game is over.
UK campus maybe dry, but across the street around the whole campus is every kind of bar you can think of. And before you try to argue, I lived in Lexington for 15yrs.
Game day....those that dont go to Rupp, usually pack these places off campus.
I've been to numerous games at Rupp over the yrs and boatload of Hockey Games when the Thoroughblades were there. Also a bunch of concerts .Alcohol was sold during the hockry games and concerts. Several of the concessions during the bball games were for high school boosters that I saw.
Now if you factor in the Lexington Civic Center and the Hyatt that are attached to Rupp is that close to the way the YUM Center is laid out?? I've never been there.....
Once you go through the gates to Rupp though you are in Rupp...totally separated from all that.
DO I think College sports should support alcohol sales at games...NO!...18-21yr old kids are still kids. Most of them want to show mommy and daddy that they are adults. Most of them are still on mommy;s tit. The ones that go to the military learn about life real quick. I enlisted when I was 18. Boot Camp wakes you up in a hurry. Would really like to see some how some of these big mouth mommy and daddy's would do in Boot Camp.
Enough,,,LOL!!!
I was told by my mom, dad and friends that I went in as a boy and came home from Bootcamp a man. Your exactly right, you realize in a hurry that you are not on this earth for others to serve you, listen to you make excuses and baby you. You make your own way while being a part of a team that depends on you doing your part and you stand by your decisions right or wrong. All the classes, physical training, punishment, yelling, screaming and paying for others mistakes made you grow up. I really wish more young adults went into the military because I feel that our country would be more disciplined in so many ways.
IMO the age limit to drink should be 18. If you can vote, if you can die for this country, you should be able to buy a beer. If not, then make adulthood the age of 21. Can't vote or join the military until 21 years of age.
Agreed! Actually kind of funny how drinking is allowed in so many areas (of course I know it's legal and all the years of prohibition) of our life. That dang liquid has been the root of so many evils in our society. Kinda sad to see folks who have let it control their lives in one way or another.
I know you have stopped Tim and I hope your life and health is better for it. Congrats to you!
Bplcards - Mills ain't gonna go out to dinner or do anything else in Louisville...he doesn't just hate U of L Athletics, he's a big time hater of this city. Never seen someone dislike where they live as much as Mills has mentioned that he hates it here in Louisville. Everyone I know of likes it here, except Mills. I'm not 100% positive but I think he may even dislike the entire state of Kentucky.
Old enough to go to war, old enough to vote, old enough to drink. This is how I have always seen it.
Nope got no problems with the rest of the State of Ky., it's just Louisville..Bplcards - Mills ain't gonna go out to dinner or do anything else in Louisville...he doesn't just hate U of L Athletics, he's a big time hater of this city. Two big difference's between being able to go to war at 17 and able to drink at 18 or whatever age.
You become a man/woman when you complete Military training..Your still a kid until your 21 in my eyes if you are still in School, college, Vo. Tech or whatever....While kids are in college they think they can run home to mommy and daddy and have them help them out of tough jams....
Military members learn how to become a adult and take care of their own problems....
I agree that alcoholism is a huge problem, as is drunk driving. If you are one of those "lucky one's" who have the genetic makeup that makes you predisposed to alcohol abuse, I feel sorry for you. It truly *****.Agreed! Actually kind of funny how drinking is allowed in so many areas (of course I know it's legal and all the years of prohibition) of our life. All that being said, I still made the choice to drink, it was my problem and I had to take responsibility for it. Many people can drink and control it, those of us like me, can't. It is as simple as that.

I have lived in Hawaii, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Spain and now Kentucky. While all the other locations have their special places in my life I proudly call Lexington home. The birth of my daughter, the wonderful people and the beauty of the state have made this state home. Been here since 1996 and for the most part enjoy it. I have to say the Winters can sukk but the rest is purty good.
I'm sure I'll move when I retire and my sights are set on Hawaii. Already have wittled it down too a few islands that I gotta choose from.![]()
