tying winged ants

Tying some today, first time I have ever tied them and never fished them. The recipe I am using is simple and involves black dubbing and some hackle. I am using grizzly hackle tips for the wings and brown saddle hackle wraps. Never fished an ant pattern before but I figure this spring and summer they will make a good addition to the fly box!

We fish a lot of ant patterns up in Norther UT during the summer months...the chernobyl ant is a great pattern on the Green River. Of course, I always fish them with a dropper...just can't help myself, lol. Good luck with the tying Tim.

I like parachute ant patterns myself. Seems like they sit just perfectly with the thorax under the film and the rest right in it. By the way, Chernobyl ants work great on all kinds of bass and panfish too. I've had rock bass jump out of the water to hit them.
