if you anchor, hook the bait behind dorsal fin, throw out open the bail an let it do its thing. i try not to hook into the meaty part, just enough to keep the bait securly on the hook, if you are drifting through the nose (not the eyes). Shad wont with stand much throwing out an re throwing, its a bait you normally throw out an wait.....shinners, tuffeys will hold up all day...

some other variations may give u better pattern results, egg sinker, split shot, or no weight....
My prefernece is channel brakes, underwater contour changes, 35-40 ish feet winter time normal depth
