    It's 60+ Deg outside today

Man I wish I could go fishing at Bluegrass today. Too bad they closed the lakes to fishing during this time of the years.

I wish that they would still let us fish when the duck hunter are off the water. They can only duck hunt Mon Wed Fri and Saturday from sunrise to noon so they won't be out there hunting after noon and all day on Tue, Thurs and Sundays.

So why can't people fish on Bluegrass, Loon and Otter Pit when they are not hunting? Seems to me that might work out ok.

I can see that they don't want people fishing while other's are shooting at waterfowl. But if they are not hunting waterfowl then why can't people fish.

We don't get too many days like this in Dec when it's 60 deg outside.

I'll bet that some people are still fishing anyway and either don't know that it's close to fishing or just ignore the rules.

I know what you mean Greg, I was thinking the same thing, let us fish after the duck hunters are off the water

I was kind of hoping for more positive responses on this issue. But I guess not that many guys like to fish in the winter months. Still I'd like to see a few people call Sugar Ridge and ask them if we could fish when they are not hunting waterfowl on Bluegrass. Yesterday was such a nice day to fish. It was calm on the water and so warm. And I looked for but only saw two ducks in the entire area. The ducks must have all flown south or are still up North as there are not many ducks around here now.

I did go for a drive and looked around the Bluegrass Area for some wildlife. Took my camera with me but didn't see anything to really take a picture of that I didn't already have.

So I guess I'll have to find some more fishing and hunting forums to read this winter.

I thought it was only the two larger lakes that where closed down. I don't fish Blue Grass much any more do to the crowdiness but I have caught a few nice bass in the past in late November. I am all for there to be a local lake open to fish though in winter.

I've fished the past 6 weekends at Dale Hollow. I never put the boat up....I have 5 more trips planned through mid January. I will then do some standard Maintenance in February, and will start the cycle again Second Weekend in March at KY lake.......

    Later,

i just resd your post and you are right about not many people fishing in winter months which i like. i fish in the winter months for striper and it is nice not to have a ton of other boats on the water. sometimes you have to pinch yourself when you are catching big fish and not another boat in sight. we fished monroe this late fall with pretty good success. went down to cumberland 10 days before xmas and killed them. caught as many as 20 nice stripers. no huge fish but several in the keeper size which is 24in. bigest was 28in but a blast to catch. came back home and went to hardy two days later and caught one nice 15lb. striper and one wiper. hopefully with the weather being so warm this winter there will be an extended season.

Re: It's 60+ Deg outside today

This week it's going to be in the 50s for the first few days.

Back in 2004 I did a lot more fishing in Nov and Dec. I was catching crappie. A couple of times I fished KY lake in Nov and Dec. But I was not familar with that section of KY lake and didn't catch that many fish.

I fished Bluegrass a lot and learned a few good spots that produce at varying times of the day.

If it's not windy and you dress warm it's not bad fishing if it's 50 deg or a above. Just don't fall into the water. And Always wear a Life Jacket or PFD. Personal Floatation Device especially when the water's cold.

It's also a good idea to have a ladder on the boat to help you get back into the boat and have a way of getting warmed up and a dry change of cloths. when fishing in the winter months. A blanket and something to start a fire with helps too or a good propane heater.
