I've been doing best on 1/4 oz jigs with some combination of 3" white, chartreuse, pink or orange curlytails, but I haven't done well when the water was really muddy. Though when it's just kind of stained/muddy, I've done well. We've tipped them with minnows, but haven't the last couple of times. Seems to me like they just bite the minnow off, we miss more fish and catch as many without the minnows.

I was fishing next to a guy the other day that has been fishing the river for 35 years. He was using a 1/16 oz jig , then he switched to a 1/32 and a 1/16 tied tandem and he got his limit a couple of hours before I did. He says when the water is kind of muddy, he thinks its better to be close to the bottom, but not on it. It was sure working for him and I plan on giving it a try, though it's gonna drive me nuts not feeling my bait. Yellow is his favorite color for stained/muddy water.
