Have you been fishing at the Greenup Dam on the Ohio side? I come by there 5 times a week from work! The water has been up lately.

Been a really good winter for sauger so far. I've been up there several times and the fish have really been biting. Most of the fishing has been on the Ohio side so far. Lots of limits and lots of nice fish in the 17-19 inch range too.
Everyone I've talked to has been catching them on jigs.

It's been hit or miss for me at Greenup this year. Most trips it is either a easy limit or a bust with nothing.Got there one day when jastew and his buddies were leaving, left without any.Think I will hide behind a tree to see what they are doing.Plan on giving it a try after this cold spell goes threw and the river drops a little hopefully by the end of the week.

Sorry Jake, I've only had a couple of bad days this year: when the water was up and muddy, every other day we've caught limits or close to it. Maybe you're not holding your mouth right? Looks like the river will be in good shape this weekend with some good weather as well.
Looks like Friday the river and weather are cooperating for a trip to the dam,
will plan on going.Give me a heads up and will try to meet up with you at the dam sometime.Ralph, the buddy I fish with at the dam don't want to go until the water gets below 20' and leaves me fishing by myself.

What are you using to catch sauger and walleyes in muddy water??

Haven't had much luck this year in muddy water this year but white with red firetail seems to work better for me.Think larger twisters at least 4-5 inch work better in muddy water.

I've been doing best on 1/4 oz jigs with some combination of 3" white, chartreuse, pink or orange curlytails, but I haven't done well when the water was really muddy. Though when it's just kind of stained/muddy, I've done well. We've tipped them with minnows, but haven't the last couple of times. Seems to me like they just bite the minnow off, we miss more fish and catch as many without the minnows.
I was fishing next to a guy the other day that has been fishing the river for 35 years. He was using a 1/16 oz jig , then he switched to a 1/32 and a 1/16 tied tandem and he got his limit a couple of hours before I did. He says when the water is kind of muddy, he thinks its better to be close to the bottom, but not on it. It was sure working for him and I plan on giving it a try, though it's gonna drive me nuts not feeling my bait. Yellow is his favorite color for stained/muddy water.
Went to Meldahl Sat from 7:30am-1:00pm. Caught 2 sauger, one keeper. Never marked any fish around the locks and rocky bank on Ohio side. Fish were not in there.
