    Did Kevin Wirth retire?

Just looking through the names on BASS as to who is fishing the Elites this year and his name was not there. Anyone in the know with him?

Yes, he is fishing in his last BASS Masters Classic this year and is stepping away after losing his main sponsor (Early Times).

Just goes to show that if you don't have a nice sponsorship deal you just can't make it in the fishing industry with just winnings.

You can read about him on Bassfan.com. I hate to see him leave though. He is a nice guy.
What I also read on that site I find upsetting is about a cheater named Nate Wellman. His name is on the roster of Elites fishing this year. For those of you that don't know the controversy surrounding him, he attempted to buy a bass off of his co-angler in a Bassmaster Open tournament last year. Not once but three or four times that day.

I doubt it...he's got some other things cooking right now, and I really think he's burnt out on it more than anything....there comes a time when you gotta move on.

He's a pretty good golfer - might see him trying to get on a tour now. He seems to be successful with whatever he does.

Kevin said he is getting back into the equine dentistry business and a couple of other ventures.

    Re: Did Kevin Wirth retire?

He never left the equine dentistry business, he has continued it all during his fishing career. The funny thing is that I talked to him for about 30 minutes a month ago and we talked about the Calssic and things and he never mentioned any of this. Makes me wonder if this is a fairly new development.

My guess is that if he were to win the Classic, he will not walk away, but who knows. He has talked a l,ot about pursuing golf on the senior PGA tournament trail, so maybe he is ready to focus on that. Like Art said, Kevin seems to be a success at whatever he does, so it will be interesting to see wherre he goes from here.
