It has NOTHING to do with conservatism......it is cronyism....PURE and SIMPLE.

Personally, I think the governor should be locked up in their place.

Really pisses me off...........antiquated laws. I think pardons and commutations like this should be outlawed.....PERIOD.

So you're saying the Founding Fathers got it wrong on this point? I disagree. There's nothing antiquated about checks and balances, and the power to pardon is an important one. The police, judges, and juries, are not, and never will be, perfect. Any power can be abused, as it was in this case, but eliminating it altogether would do more damage to our society as a whole than the occasional abuses do, IMHO.

Actually I think they did get it wrong in this case.

A single person should NOT be able to overturn a conviction by ones peers. Maybe in the case if fraud or abuse of power or whatever, BUT that then should be done by maybe a pardon board or something.

For a Governor to be able to grant pardons based on on WHAT Haley Barbour did, is an abuse of power.......

I don't live in MS but I live about 90 miles from Jackson, MS where all this crap is taking place. People around here are more than a little bit upset over the pardons and all of Haley Barbour's craziness. I saw a news report about the pardons and he proved that he is a real redneck smartass. He was very unprofessional, making hateful comments, and did everything but flip the news reporters a bird.
