"Look, marines kill to win, and sometimes they kill a lot and that's good, that's fine, that's war. But in victory we are trained to be compassionate, we are trained to be respectful and this incident was neither of those." -Lieutenant Colonel Jay Stout, a former U.S. Marine Corps pilot
Served in the grunts and also in the air wing of the Corps (Infantry and Aviation branches for those of you that may not know military lingo) and I never did see a pilot spend a tour with a 40lb pack on his back crawling thru the jungles with an M16....or as it would be now days...the sand....so like I said before....he has not walked in their boots...he would not understand either.
The problem here is obvious.....folks around the world actually got to see something about war that they would rather not see...it is so much easier to just put your head in the sand and wave a flag than to face reality. There is a reason that the suicide rate among our ground troops in the past 10 years had sky rocketed to record levels...there is a reason that PTSD is now a very common by-product of our ground troops that have served in the past 10 years. Fighting wars with no clear objectives for winning (political wars) and serving tour after tour after tour by these troops has its toll....I have never said I condone what happened on this tape....but one thing is for sure...I will **** sure try to understand how some kids that were in high school just a year or two ago, maybe living next door....have now lived through enough hell to cause them to do something like this...and I will **** sure support them too....and I don't care who's feelings they hurt.
