Hunting along Railroads

I have been looking for regulations about hunting along railroad tracks and I am having a hard time finding any information. My question, Is it legal to hunt along railroad tracks in Kentucky? I basically would be walking along the tracks looking for small game rabbits, squirrels, ETC.. If you know or have any information on if this is legal or not I would love to know. Thanks!!

the railroad actually owns the property the tracks are on including the ballast line on each side of the tracks and often a much wider right of way than just the ballast. i do know for a fact that they consider it "tresspassing" if you are on their property. i work for the railroad and have seen some pretty sad outcomes from people hunting, walking, riding 4 wheelers etc on and around the rail. not to mention a pretty big collection of prized beagle hounds. i would ask landowners adjacent to the tracks for permission to hunt instead of tangling with the railroads.

Thanks for the information. Better to be safe than sorry, Sounds like I should be looking elsewhere for hunting areas.

Unfortunately we now live in a society that is full of whiners and tattle tales and everyone carries cell phones so if you are seen walking down the tracks there is always the possibility somebody can report you. All it takes is one of the railroad maintenance guys to hold their cell phone out the truck window put it in your face and get your pic and you can be tracked down and charged for criminal trespassing.

And no im not directing this post at stripernut or anyone else in any form or fashion because im sure he is posting with the best of intentions of not wanting to see someone get seriously injured or killed.

if you do hunt on the railroad, please be very careful. this is a true story.. my friends brother and his two sons, they were twins, they loved to rabbit hunt. and they hunted for rabbits on a double railroad. one day while hunting they heard a train coming, and caught and held their dogs until the train passed. as the end of the train passed the two brothers turned the dogs lose. thinking it was safe now, didn't know there was another train coming from the other direction, and walked right out in front of the other train and both twins were killed, and they were about 19 years of age.
