The fee/tax that bugs me the most is the day use fee at Corp operated boat ramps. Does anyone know if they will really write a citation for not paying? I have never heard of it happening myself.

if im going to pay for fish i keep i will target walleye....whats next? a premium for certain species?

I think that if the KDFW would impose a 14 to 18 in slot, similar to Dale Hollow rules and regs on SM, that in a few years fish quality would rise to 70's and 80's fish. Impose the slot on Rough, Nolin, Barren and Taylorsville to start for a few years and study the results. I know this would kill Tournaments so maybe they could do one lake for 2-3 yrs, then another for 2-3 yrs. Or maybe have official monitors to check that tournament fish are released immediately upon weigh in. Just a few thoughts.

    1. Thats what fishing license are for. It makes no sense to make tournament fisherman pay more just because they are fishing tournaments.

    2. Stocking is overatted, studies have shown it isnt really a great fix for bass anyway so you would be making bass fisherman pay for trout and catfish.

    3. F&W is not hurting for money anyway.

    4. It would make the really large tournaments you mentioned just go to other states. Some states with regulations that are not tournament friendly have seen this happen. Big tournaments bring in out of state money which helps local businesses around the lakes.

    5. Whos going to inforce it?? wont that be fun making F&W employees go to tournaments and count the boats and make sure they get their 10%.

Now all that being said I would be in favor for something that helped out tournaments. Like a tournament size limit exception where boats in a tournament could use the statewide 12in size limit if they paid some sort of fee. This would help put some big tournaments on places like Dale Hollow.

    Re: Pay to play

Yeah it might, I am just throwing ideas out that may relieve some of the pressure on our reservoirs. I might be wrong but IMO, pressure is what is causing fish quality to decline. I'd say that most of the fish have seen everything there is thrown at them, that is why the new A-rig is so hot right now. I'm not trying to ruffle feathers as I too sometimes will fish an open tourney although my lack of skills rarely puts that much pressure on the bass.LOL

    1. I agree totally.

    2. Not sure how stocking bass would be making bass anglers pay for trout and catfish. You lost me there.

    3. I don't know KDFWR's total financial picture, but I hardly doubt they are "not hurting for money." License sales are in a continual decline over the last several years and this is where a big chunk of their budget comes from.

    4. Agree on this.

    5.Agree again.

On your last point I say absolutely not. Tournament anglers need to follow the same laws as everyone else. Who cares if there are no big tournaments on Dale Hollow?

    hey bullit,
I to fish Herrington and Barren and Green and Cumberland and Cedar. I must say that it is harder to catch them sometimes BUT you still can catch them. Over the 25 years that I have fished these lakes alot has changed even the way you have to fish them to be effective. To me, fishing effectively almost changes yearly and adapting to that is the only way to consistently catch them (I'm still learning and no one but KVD catches them all the time). Green and Barren as good as always as a matter of fact Green has been on fire for a few years now. I truly have caught more and bigger fish on Green than in years past and it's pounded by tourneys. Cedar has had a numbers drop off for me BUT the quality is very good. Herrington has gotten tougher BUT I've personally had to change the way I fish it to be effective. I do wish that some tourneys would lower their limit to 5 instead of 6, I'm sure it sould help some.
Have a good one and see ya on the water,
    Tim
